The stun gun's current temporarily impairs the nervous system from functioning properly. Essentially what happens is the stun gun dumps its energy into the muscles causing them to work rapidly. This will cause disorientation and loss of balance, leaving you precious time to get away.

Remember, it isn't the voltage that takes down the attacker, it's the amperage. A high voltage stun gun only has a few milliamps, which generally doesn't cause harm. Having a stun gun in your possession will give you confidence and peace of mind.
